An acronym is a word formed from the initial letter or letters of each of the successive parts of a compound term. Acronyms have always been an important part of computer culture and on the Web they’re used to represent common phrases that people say to one another. This is because it’s quicker and easier to type out a few letters rather than typing out the full expression. Acronyms are used most often in chatrooms.
